This depends on a few different factors. You need to determine your security and surveillance requirements.
- Take a walk-through and first determine how many cameras you may need. Are these cameras going to be located indoors or outdoors?
- It is very important to know the lighting conditions of the area to be monitored
- It is a common misconception that a single surveillance camera will cover very large area. It is the size of the lens which determines the cameras Field of View. (FOV)
- Next determine how it is you want to record what your cameras are viewing.
- If you just need 1 camera then you can simply use the video and audio inputs on your VCR.
- For most people 1 camera simply will not do the job. In which case you could run multiple cameras into quad or multiplexer. Then using a special Time Laps VCR record up to 24 hours at a time on one tape. This would be considered an analog system.
- Digital Video Recording Systems are the quickly becoming the system of choice for those whom are serious about their security and surveillance. These types of system offer advanced features such as Point Of Sale (POS) transaction display and remote monitoring
